Hey, Remember the Pandemic?

WARNING: This is a long overdue rant.

Thank you, Jenny T., Long Beach, CA for your review of Hunters in Palm Springs, CA.

People like you are a big part of why alcoholism among service industry workers skyrocketed during the pandemic. (I don’t know if that statistic is true, but it certainly felt real in my circle.)

Most people going out in Palm Springs are on vacation, which is a big part of why the number of Covid cases rose in the area, thus prompting the city to order a proof-of-vaccination requirement. The summer of 2021 was one of the biggest spikes in the pandemic due to everyone pretending like it was no longer happening. Do you understand how exhausting it was for businesses to not only keep up with the current regulations but also deal with customers who took out their frustration towards the government on service employees? EXHAUSTING. Hence the drinking.

[SIDE NOTE: During the summer of 2020 I waited on a man who refused to wear a mask and instead wore a shield on which he had sloppily written in Sharpie, "F*ck Newsom." (Gavin Newsom, our governor). Meanwhile, all of us employees are wearing double masks, face shields, and rubber gloves. So glad I risked getting Covid so you could go out to dinner and tip 12%.]

It was said on the news (ad nauseam!) that if you were to travel that summer to research the area’s restrictions and to always have your vaccination card on you. SO SORRY YOU WEREN’T ABLE TO GO TO A BAR. This is such a bitch ass thing to complain about. That’s right I said BITCH ASS.

The point of these regulations was so hospitals in the area wouldn’t be inundated with patients and therefore unable to provide care. End of story.

And by leaving a one-star review you’re putting a business that has already been struggling, due to the pandemic, in further jeopardy for something they have literally no control over. What a yucky thing to do.

Can you tell I'm not over it?

Kudos to Eric S. (Or Herbie the business manager - unclear), for keeping it professional. Or, what I'm choosing to read as so slyly passive-aggressive. "We hope this helps, thank you." Killer move.

One out of five stars, Jenny T. Maybe next time you can put your energy towards contacting local government officials to voice your complaints as an attempt to make any actual change, but that seems like a lot more work than whining on Yelp and I don’t see you doing that.

See you next Tuesday!
